The vice president is the highest-ranking administration official to react to the allegations, which have renewed scrutiny of Trump’s personal life and treatment of women.

The Wall Street Journal reported that Trump’s personal attorney, Michael Cohen, formed a shell company to arrange a six-figure payment to the adult film actress, who goes by the stage name Stormy Daniels, to ensure she did not speak out about the alleged relationship during the 2016 campaign.

Cohen and the White House have denied that Trump had an affair with Daniels, whose legal name is Stephanie Clifford.

“This is now the second time that you are raising outlandish allegations against my client,” Cohen said in a statement to the Journal. “You have attempted to perpetuate this false narrative for over a year; a narrative that has been consistently denied by all parties since at least 2011.”
