Freeport police investigating armed robbery of convenience store

FREEPORT — Freeport police are investigating a Saturday armed robbery of a convenience store in the 600 block of South Galena Avenue.

According to Deputy Chief Matt Summers, two black males wearing black-and-white face masks entered the store around 8:30 p.m.

One had a semi-automatic handgun. The men — who were about 6-feet-2 inches and 5-feet-7 inches tall — demanded money and escaped with an undisclosed amount, Summers said.

The clerk had no other information since he locked the door after them and immediately called police, Summers said.

Anyone with information should call the Freeport Police Department at 815-235-8222, Stephenson County Crime Stoppers at 815-235-7867 or Stateline Area Crime Stoppers at 866-847-7669.
