Suspect in numerous Saginaw-area tire and rim thefts arrested overnight

SAGINAW TOWNSHIP (WJRT) (1/22/2018) - A 30-year-old man arrested overnight allegedly confessed to stealing numerous tires and rims from vehicles around Saginaw over the past several months.

The Saginaw Township Police Department's Crime Prevention Surveillance Unit had been investigating the suspect for a while after tires and rims were stolen from vehicles parked at area businesses.

The string of thefts allegedly took place around Saginaw County and some surrounding counties.

Saginaw Township police allegedly caught the the suspect red-handed early Monday stealing tires and rims off a 2017 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck in the parking of a Thomas Township business.

The 30-year-old Buena Vista Township man was arrested at the scene and taken to the Saginaw Township police station, where officers say he admitted his involvement in a long string of tire and rim thefts.

The suspect remained in custody Monday morning at the Saginaw County Jail awaiting arraignment. Saginaw Township police were planning to meet with prosecutors later in the day to file formal charges.
