SAN BENITO — Spend a Saturday morning taking a bike tour of the city this February.
The San Benito Chamber of Commerce will be hosting its 2nd Annual Resaca City Bike Tour.
Residents can register as individuals or teams and take part in a 20-mile, 40-mile or 62-mile bike ride.
Sandee Alvarez from the Chamber of Commerce said the bike tours have been going on for the past three years.
According to Alvarez, the bike tour was first introduced in connection with a health and fitness expo.
The bike tour was an added attraction to the event.
“We wanted to promote healthy living,” Alvarez said.
But after the first year, the chamber decided to make the bike tour its own thing.
“We realized how much the bike tour was on its own,” Alvarez said.
The first solo bike tour event last year had 140 participants.
Alvarez said she is hoping at least 200 participants register to take part in the event.
“It’s bringing awareness of healthy living options and it’s something else for them to do in San Benito,” Alvarez said.
The chamber learned a lot from last year’s event and is more prepared moving forward with the bike tours.
“Last year we kind of just were winging it, but this year we’re more prepared,” Alvarez said.
This year’s event has had more business sponsorship participation as opposed to last year.
Unlike sponsorships, the number of registered participants is still low, but Alvarez isn’t worried.
“Last year we had a lot of people sign up last minute,” Alvarez said.
Alvarez said the chamber has been working with the city to make the event bigger and better than last year.
