SRINAGAR: A civilian, who was injured during
cross-border firing by
Pakistan in R S Pura sector on Sunday evening, succumbed to his injuries on Monday, taking the ceasefire death toll to 15 this year.
Another civilian was injured in the fifth consecutive day of
ceasefire violation, which began on Sunday evening and lasted till Monday.
The deceased has been identified as Ram Dass Bawa, a resident of Kanachak. His brother Gopal Dass Bawa, too, had lost his life in Sunday's attack. The brothers were severely injured after their house was shelled by Pakistani troops. They were rushed to a hospital where Gopal was brought dead, while Ram breathed his last on Monday.
A woman, Bimla Devi, also sustained splinter injuries in the attack, said cops.
Pakistan has been continuously violating ceasefire since January 1 targeting forward Indian posts and civilian areas along the International Border (IB) and
Line of Control (LoC). In view of the repeated attacks, at least 10,000 civilians living close to the border have relocated to safer places.
On Monday, a team of Congress members led by
Jammu and Kashmir Projects Construction Corporation president G A Mir visited the border areas and interacted with the residents, besides taking a stock of the loss of life, livestock, and property caused by the repeated ceasefire violations. They also assured the bereaved families of conveying their issues at the national level.
