BIS URGES FIRE SAFETY AND HEALTH SAFETY IN BUILDINGS
Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) jointly with the Indian Plumbing Association organized a day long workshop on National Building Code of India 2016 with focus on Fire and Life Safety and Plumbing Services in buildings. During the event, presentations were made by experts involved in the formulation of recently revised National Building Code of India 2016. The event was inaugurated by RK Mittal, Deputy Director General (Standardization), BIS who emphasized on copious use and implementation of NBC 2016 in all building programmes envisaged in different parts of country. During the technical sessions the experts highlighted the incidents of fire occurred in different parts of country resulting in casualty and loss of property. The reason for calamities was assigned primarily to non-compliance to NBC or ineffective implementation thereof.Another area discussed at length was the plumbing services encompassing water supply, drainage,sanitation,solid waste management and gas supply, impinging upon health safety of occupants of buildings. The experts deliberated on ensuring comprehensive fire safety and health safety provisions in residential,hospital, commercial and industrial buildings and also special requirements in metro stations and trainways, commercial kitchen, parking including multi-level mechanized parking, malls and multiplexes. The event was attended by around 200 delegates representing regulators such as local bodies, government construction agencies,builders/developers, consultants, building professionals and academic institutions. All participants concerned with the building planning design and constructionurged upon the effective utilization of the sound provisions enshrined in the latest state of the art NBC 2016 to ensure safety of buildings and its occupants.

Saksham Cyclothon inaugrated by Dharmendra Pradhan
Dharmendra Pradhan, Minister for Petroleum & Natural Gas and Skill Development & Entrepreneurship, Government of India, inaugurated the Saksham Cyclothon event at Indore in the presence of Kailash Vijayvargiya, President, Indore Cycling Association, Ramesh Mendola, local MLA and other dignitaries here on Sunday. This largest cycling event witnessed in the country was held at Sayaji Square, Indore, to create mass awareness on fuel conservation and popularise cycling as an environment-friendly alternative means of transport, in order to make the country greener, people healthier and economise fuel. The highlight of the event was the participation of Dharmendra Pradhan, Kailash Vijayvargia, Ramesh Mendola and other dignitaries in the 13-km green ride. Dharmendra Pradhan, in his address, touched upon the benefits of cycling. He said that cycling improves one's health and also helps the nation in fuel conservation. He praised the people of Indore for participating in large numbers in this endeavour, responding to the call of Prime Minister Narendra Modi towards conserving fuel. He added that a milestone has been set in Indore by creating the largest cycling event till date. Vijayvargiya praised the initiative by PCRA and the Oil Industry and said that such rallies will help spread the message of conservation of petroleum products, besides being beneficial for the environment.
KVIC explores new dimensions in retailing

On January 12 this year, a MOU between KVIC and Globus chains of stores for setting up of exclusive Khadi stores named ‘Khadi Korner' was signed at Mumbai. The first shop-in-shop ‘Khadi Korner', however, was opened at GIP Mall in Noida on January 10. KVIC Chairman Vinai Kumar Saxena, who was alo present in this occasion, said that it is a good platform where customers would get a wide range of Khadi products, without travelling much of a distance. “Even the initial performance is beyond the common expectation. We have got nearly 1000 square feet area in the Globus stores. As per the market parameters, Rs 1,000 per square feet is believed to be fantastic. Agriculture Minister Radha Mohan Singh addresses Farmer's Conference
Agriculture & Farmers' Welfare Minister Radha Mohan Singh said that Department of Animal Husbandry, Dairying & Fisheries has initiated a number of schemes with the objective of doubling the dairy farmers’ income by 2022. The Government of India has taken several initiatives to increase the milk production by raising the productivity of milch animals. The Minister said while addressing a farmers' conference, organised by the Deshratan Dr. Rajendra Prasad Dugdh Utpadak Sahkari Sangh, in Ratanman, Babhangama, Begusarai. The minister said that since last 20 years, India continues to be the largest milk producer in the world and the credit goes to the Government initiatives and implementing various schemes to increase the productivity of milch animals. Milk production, which was around 17-22 million tonnes in the 1960s, increased to 165.4 million tonnes during 2016-17. Particularly, it has increased by 20.12% during 2016-17 in comparison to 2013-14. Similarly, per capita availability has increased from 307 grams in 2013-14 to 355 grams in 2016-17, registering 15.6% growth. Moreover, income of milk producers increased by 23.77% during 2014-17 as compared to 2011-14. In the last 3 years, with the annual growth rate of 6.3%, India has outpaced global milk production where it has grown by 2.1%. He also said the World Bank funded National Dairy Plan Phase I is being implemented by NDDB in coordination with the respective state governments and Cooperative Institutions/State Dairy Federations. Under this scheme, 29 sub-projects for Bihar with a total grant of Rs 64.46 crore have been approved and Rs 37.04 crore was released until December 2017. These sub-projects have been targeted to benefit 1,50,000 dairy farmers in 2,928 villages.
