A 76-year-old bicyclist was struck and killed by a minivan Saturday afternoon in Berkeley, authorities said.
Gilbert Truedsson, of the Bayville section of town, turned from the shoulder into the passenger side door of the vehicle while riding on Forest Hills Parkway around 2:30 p.m. Saturday, the Ocean County Prosecutor's Office said.
Truedsson was brought to Community Medical Center in Toms River, where he was pronounced dead at 3:17 p.m.
The driver of the minivan, an 85-year-old man from the Lanoka Harbor section of Lacey, stayed at the scene near Veterans Park, according to the prosecutor's office.
A witness in another vehicle provided the same account of the crash and the driver of the minivan will not be charged, authorities said.
Truedsson, who skied competitively and worked as a clothing designer, is survived by his wife and two daughters, according to an online obituary.
