The town manager of Huntersville was charged with simple assault Sunday evening, according to the Observer’s news partner WBTV.
Gerald Downs Vincent, 51, was arrested by the Huntersville Police Department and booked in the Mecklenburg County Jail just before 7 p.m., on a charge of misdemeanor simple assault, reported WBTV.
The town released a statement about the matter Monday morning: “This is an unfortunate personal matter for Mr. Vincent and his family. We cannot comment further on this matter at this time.”
TV station Fox 46 is reporting the town board will have a closed door meeting at 1 p.m. today to discuss “possible action” regarding a personnel issue involving Vincent.
Vincent has been town manager since July, 2017, according to the town’s web site. following serving as interim town manager for several months. He was hired in 2007 as the assistant town manager of Huntersville.
During his tenure, notable accomplishments included the purchase and renovation of the police department as well as receiving the 2013-2014 North Carolina Assistant Town Manager of the Year Award.
Before working as the town manager of Huntersville, he reportedly started as a assistant manager of Emporia, Virginia, in 1994 before becoming its city manager, the website states. He also served as the county administrator of Brunswick, Virginia, according to the town's website.
Vincent is a husband father of four, says the town’s web site.
