Alagappa University has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Madurai Kamaraj University (MKU) for academic and educational collaboration, and cooperation in a range of higher educational activities.

Vice-Chancellors S. Subbiah (Alagappa University) and P.P. Chellathaurai(MKU) signed the MoU here on Monday mainly to facilitate exchange of knowledge and expertise between the two universities in the spheres of biological science, biotechnology and chemistry.

Addressing a joint press conference later, they said this was first major step towards fostering ties with more universities across the country for exchange programmes.

The MoU would also focus on cooperation in individual projects, joint research and development projects and exchange of expertise among faculty members, they said.

It would also provide opportunities for teachers and researchers to utilise libraries, sophisticated instruments and other facilities in the world class laboratories of the two universities, they said.

Further, it would also facilitate publication of collaborative research papers in national and international journals, they added.

Alagappa University would soon sign an MoU with Annamalai University in the areas of bio-medicine, agriculture and oceanography, Prof. Subbiah said.

Members of Alagappa University Syndicate SM. Ramasamy, P. Subas Chandra Bose, A. Narayanamoorthy, J. Jeyakanthan and K. Gurunathan were present.
