A bicyclist was killed after an SUV and a pickup truck hit him Saturday night on La. 308 near La. 1011 in Labadieville, State Police said.
Eugene Russell Jr., 42, of Labadieville, died on the scene, Trooper First Class Jesse LaGrange said in a news release. Troop C in Gray was notified shortly before 7 p.m.
LaGrange said Russell was riding a Boardwalk bicycle and Lacy Dempster, 35, of Thibodaux, was driving a 2015 Chevrolet Suburban, both in the northbound lane. Russell then tried to cross into the southbound lane.
Dempster braked and swerved to avoid him but was unsuccessful, LaGrange said. Russell was ejected from the bike and landed in the southbound lane, where a 2018 Ford F-150 hit him.
Both Dempster and the truck's driver, Vincent Saragusa, 61, of Houma, were wearing seat belts, LaGrange said. They were not injured.
LaGrange said breath tests showed no alcohol present in Dempster and Saragusa. A routine toxicology report is pending for Russell.
