President Trump blamed Democratic lawmakers on the third day of the government shutdown for placing noncitizens' demands over the needs of Americans.

"The Democrats are turning down services and security for citizens in favor of services and security for non-citizens. Not good!" Trump tweeted Monday morning.

"Democrats have shut down our government in the interests of their far left base. They don’t want to do it but are powerless!" he added.

The partial government shutdown started midnight Saturday following Republicans and Democrats' inability to compromise on when they would vote on a Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals bill.

Democrats wanted DACA legislation included in a stopgap spending bill, but the majority of conservatives do not want immigration reforms thrown into the continuing resolution, and say more time is needed to negotiate in either case.

The Senate is expected to vote on a bill that would fund the government through Feb. 8 and the GOP has promised Democrats it would take up a DACA bill in exchange for their cooperation on the first vote. But Democrats don't seem prepared to accept that deal as of Monday morning.
