Two youths living in the nearby locality have been identified by the police allegedly for being involved in the clash with the students at hostel-4 of the Agriculture Department of the Birsa Agricultural University for which a hunt has been initiated since Saturday. Six students were seriously injured in the clash which took place between the locals and BAU students.

“We have identified two persons living in vicinity to the University campus and the hunt is on to arrest them. They are yet to be nabbed as were not found in their homes during the police raid,” said SP Rural Ajit Peter Dungdung.

The SP further said that the BAU students, involved in the scuffle and those who put the motorcycles into fire have also been identified through the CCTV footage and the University administration has been asked to find them out, he added. Meanwhile, additional forces have been deployed in the campus in the wake of the Saraswati Puja being celebrated there on Monday, said the SP.

Interestingly, the locals during the scuffle had left two bikes near the hostel out of which one was burnt by the students on Saturday following the incident while another one was allegedly kept by them till Sunday and later also put on fire near the hostel.

Hostel students claimed that around 20-25 persons, carrying hockey sticks and baseball bats along with two gallons of petrol with them, had come there on four two wheelers and a Scorpio, and attacked on the students of the hostel injuring four 1st year students seriously with several others with minor injuries.

“When injured students were being carried to the hospital, the locals again attacked the ambulance carrying them at Kanke Chowk with an intention to kill them and injured two more students.

All of them have been admitted to Medica Hospital,” said a student requesting anonymity. Lavender Soi, Saurabh Suman Subhashish Chaterjee and Ayush got injured during the attack on the hostel gate while Sushil Singh of 3rd year and Chandan Shukla of 4th year got injured in the attack on Kanke Chowk, he added.

Sources, however, revealed that four locals had gone to Hostel number 4 looking for Centre of Agribusiness Management (CAM) student with whom they had some argument during Christmas Gathering on some trivial issues, but they entered into argument with the hostel students who thrashed them badly in the afternoon.

Beaten by the hostel students, the locals came prepared at around 4:30 pm and attacked on the students indiscriminately whoever was seen on the hostel gate laving four of them injured.

An FIR has been filed against unidentified persons by the University administration while no complaint has been received from the other side.
