MILLER CITY — Denny Stachowiak, of Miller City, brought his 2002 Chevy Corvette Z06 to the Lima Auto Mall Charity Car Show in June.

He has owned the car for five years.

“I always wanted one and never found one I liked,” Stachowiak said.

The Chevrolet Corvette has won people’s hearts for more than 60 years as a true sports car. The name came from a warship. The original 1953 Corvette came in one color, Polo White with a red interior and retailed for approximately $3,500. Vehicles made in 1953 were constructed of steel, making the Corvette’s fiberglass body innovative.

Production of the Corvette has been in three different cities, Flint, Bowling Green and St. Louis. The Corvette has been used as a pace car of the Indianapolis 500 13 times.

The 2002 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 was faster than its predecessor and had more technology. The V-8 engine was revised, with 405 horsepower. The Z06 could reach 60 mph in less than four seconds.

Finding the one he liked was the main objective in Stachowiak’s mind.

He uses it to tour around, but he also takes trips too.

“I am not afraid to drive it,” Stachowiak said.
