Now in its 12th year, there is still no shortage of women in our community deserving of the “25 Women You Need to Know” honor.

Every year nominations are sent in from friends, spouses, children, co-workers or just admirers of women who are passionate about making positive changes in the lives of others and our community. These women dedicate their time to improving the lives of others, work harder and smarter than most and know that even the smallest change can make the biggest difference in someone’s life.

You know this woman. She gets up early or stays up late to make the most of the 24 hours she’s been given. She sacrifices her time for someone else who needs it more.  She shares her talents with groups who would not achieve greatness without her help.  She doesn’t give up. She takes care of her family, and everyone else’s family before herself, but most of all she inspires other women to do the same.

Just as important as honoring this year’s 25 Women You Need to Know, is finding the 5 Young Women to Watch. These high school aged girls are on track to change the world.  They give of their time and talents to others and still manage to succeed in sports or other extracurricular activities while maintaining their impressive GPA’s.

Once all of the nominations are in on Feb. 5 at 5 p.m., the judges take on the difficult task of finding the best of the best.

It's tough to choose the top 25 women and 5 young women, knowing there are so many deserving women out there. This year, these are the women who excel in their jobs and go above and beyond in every way possible, leaving an indelible mark on our community, making us all better for it.

So take a moment, go totallahassee.com/25women and fill out the short nomination form and then bear witness to these remarkable women.  Every day in the month of March one woman or young woman will be profiled in the Tallahassee Democrat in print and online.

Nominate these women so we can shower them with the praise and admiration they deserve, not because they need or want it, but because we will be able to shine a light on them and the incredible and inspiring work they do.

Nominate someone today. The deadline is Feb. 5.
