Dutch govt to come out with digital strategy this year

The Dutch government says it will this year come out with a strategy to help all entrepreneurs and people in the Netherlands benefit from the digital economy. Secretary of State Mona Keijzer stated in an opinion that digitisation is not only about economics, but also touches on relationships in society, on safety and on accessibility.

"The digital economy is not an honest economy everywhere. It is high time that this changes. We must ensure that everyone can use digitisation and that digital companies cannot escape the rules of a regular economy. Only in this way will everyone benefit from digitisation," the opinion said.

From 22 January, Keijzer will hold in The Hague a series of round table discussions with representatives from government, business and civil society organisations in order to develop this digital strategy. The plan is one that has been put forward by the current government coalition agreement between the VVD, CDA, D66 and CU parties. Netherlands ICT welcomed the idea in October.
