Rare honour
Honorary Sub Lieutenant Ramesh Chand will create a record of sorts when he will lead the Indian Navy band at Rajpath on Republic Day. It will be his 20th consecutive year in this role. The six-foot tall band leader will retire in April this year and plans to return his native village in Himachal Pradesh. Incidentally, this year will also mark a total of 30 years of his participation in the parade. Before assuming charge of the band, he had marched down Rajpath for ten years as a musician of the Naval band.
Sambar diplomacy
At the judiciary's biggest moment of crisis, Chief Justice of India (CJI) Dipak Misra, who faced rebellion from the four senior most colleagues last week, found support from other brother judges. The CJI used the services of these senior judges---Justices SA Bobde, UU Lalit and DY Chandrcachud-- to negotiate with the rebels. The CJI forgot to include Justice NV Ramana in the early deliberations. At the customary common lunch on Wednesday last week, delicious idli, sambar came from Justice Ramana's residence. It was only then CJI realised his folly and later took him on board as well on the issue.
MCI legal woes
The case involving former Orissa High Court judge IM Quddusi in an Uttar Pradesh medical college admissions scam e is just one of the legal battles the Medical Council of India (MCI) is fighting in the courts. In fact, it is presently engaged in more than 11,000 legal cases before various judicial forums as a defendant/respondent or litigant across the country. The list continues to increase. Last year only, at least 35 cases relating to grant of permission for admitting students in medical colleges across the country were brought before the apex court.
Trump’s health
White House Doctor physician Ronny Jackson may have called USA President Donald Trump's health 'Excellent', but Padma Shri awardee KK Aggarwal, a cardiologist from India and former president of Indian Medical Association, differs. Soon after the health report card of Trump was announced last week, Dr Aggarwal came out with the statement saying that Trump is not as healthy because of obesity (BMI 30.7) and high cholesterol levels, which put him at risk of a cardiovascular event such as heart attack. Dr Aggarwal thinks Trumps should go for life style change and take low fat and low carbohydrate diet.
Double role
On the occasion of 'Makar Sankranti' Union Minister Vijay Goel hosted a lunch with wide-ranging 'Chandini Chowk' fare on the tables. But what stood out is a real looking cut-out of him put up in the front of his Ashok road residence. Many visitors initially mistook it for the real one and went out to shake hands with it . Goel played a nice double role !.
Hazare upset
Social activist Anna Hazare was annoyed with the organisers for poor gathering at Constitution Club last week. Anna had come to attend a function organized by an NGO, attending by leaders of Congress and BJP including former Delhi Minister Ramakant Goswami. The leaders of Congress and BJP were seen in taking selfie with Anna. Neither Yogandra Yadav camp nor Arvind Kejriwal camp were present on the occasion.
Sheila’s target
Some Congress leaders, who had created hurdles during the Sheila Dikshit rule, are worried after reports that the former Delhi Chief Minister has written a memoir 'Citizen Delhi: My Times, My Life' on her 15 years rule. A Congress leader who is considered close to Dikshit, said that names of ,Congress leader Suresh Kalmadi, Ahmed Patel, Ajay Maken, P Chidambaram and Kamalnath are expected in the reference. The memoir takes readers through the lifelong journey of Delhi's longest serving chief minister. In this book, Dikshit had admitted that she could not gauge the mood of youth in 2013.
