Mumbai: Aaditya Thackeray to be promoted as Shiv Sena secretary; things to expect

Soon, Shiv Sena is set to get a new party secretary. Yuva Sena chief Aaditya Thackeray is to be announced as secretary on January 23 in its state executive meeting.

According to a report in DNA, the announcement to promote Aaditya as party’s secretary will be done in Shiv Sena’s state executive meeting on Tuesday at Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Stadium in Worli. Shiv Sena has eight secretaries and it is likely that Aaditya would be vested with the responsibility of secretary in addition to being the president of Yuva Sena.

Aaditya who currently is president of Shiv Sena’s youth wing — Yuva Sena— is being looked at as the political heir for the Thackerays.  “Aditya is galvanizing youngsters and this is what Shiv Sena would benefit from. There is no question of launching him since he is already a Sena leader,” Sanjay Raut, Rajya Sabha MP, told the leading daily.

Aaditya Thackeray came into limelight after his night-life idea, in which he demanded that hotels and restaurants be kept open 24/7. Aaditya also has participated in many agitations led by youth in city.

Aaditya mooted the idea of malls, clubs should stay open 24X7, along with chemists and convenience stores, in non-residential areas.

Aaditya Thackeray led students at Mumbai University in a movement to remove from the syllabus a book by Rohinton Mistry, the prize-winning Indian author now living in Canada. The work, Such a Long Journey, was insulting to people from Maharashtra, the state of which Mumbai is the capital, according to them.

Aaditya is also making an effort to forget the “moral policing” of the past when Shiv Sena activists harassed couples in parks.

Aaditya Thackeray’s first book of poems, My Thoughts in White and Black’, was published by his grandfather, Bal Thackeray, in 2007. The 77-page book has been divided into categories such as politics, British Raj & Independence, the struggle of the proletariat, royalty and wars, art, spiritualism mysticism and prophecy.

The following year, he turned lyricist and released a private album Ummeed, for which he wrote all the eight songs.

Aaditya also has participated in many agitations led by youth in the city.
