More than 1500 people including men, women and youngsters ran for the cause to promote healthy lifestyle practices in a 10 km ‘Beardo-Thon’ which was kicked off from Chandigarh Club here on Sunday morning.
The event was hosted by Bharat Beard club which has been working towards improving men’s health and raising awareness on early prevention of cancer by organising such marathons across the country.
The marathon was flagged off by Vishal Singh, founder and president, Bharat Beard Club.
Reiterating the need for such events, he urged people cutting across age groups to commit to the cause of good physical, emotional and mental health.
Bharat Beard Club has organized such events in Bengaluru and Mumbai and the marathon being held in Chandigarh is the third in the series. From here, the event will be organized in Delhi, Pune and Ahmedabad.
Funds raised in the event will be given to the Mumbai-based NGO, Cancer Aid and Research Foundation – CARF.
The marathon passed through Rock Garden, Sukhna Lake, Raj Bhavan, Chandigarh Golf Course and other key areas of the city. The participants were encouraged with live Dhol and DJ music.
Vishal Singh, founder and president, Bharat Beard Club said, “Cancer is a mere symptom of another deeply entrenched malady – faulty lifestyle. Every little choice made in the course of the day brings people closer to or takes them away from cancer. The need of the hour is to motivate people to make the right choices, live closer to nature and focus on living a fulfilled life instead of a fast one”.
