Himachal Governor Acharya Devvrat on Sunday said that scientists are now recommending natural farming after thorough research in this direction.
The Governor, while addressing a gathering of farmers at Kendla in Haryana’s Jind district, said that the farmers had used chemical fertilizers in abundance in the name of green revolution to increase their production.
The excessive use of chemicals continuously decreased the fertility of the soil, said he adding that we would only give barren land to our future generation, which was a matter of concern. Chemical farming was not going to benefit the farmers in any way, he said.
Acharya Devvrat said that similarly, even organic farming was not proved beneficial for the farmers as it was costly and farmers have to use cow dung and other products besides earthworm manure etc.
The production under this system was lesser during the first three years and the loss was not bearable for the poor farmers, he added.
The Governor said that nowadays, big factories have been set up in the name of organic products and costly farming products were being produced and the farmers took loan in every crop.
He said that zero budget natural farming was the only solution to safe the farmers and double their income. Under this system, the farmers not have to spend even a single penny , but get more benefits such as rejuvenate the barren land, minimum use of water, safe production for health, safe the environment etc.
He urged the farmers to rear Indian breed cow to adopt natural farming.
On the occasion, Haryana Agriculture Minister OP Dhankhar urged the farmers to rear Indian breed of cow and work to improve the breed of cattle.
He said that number of schemes have been started by the Haryana Government for the welfare of farmers and steps had been taken for strengthening farm sector in the state.
