STONY BROOK, N.Y. — Senior forward Kat Fogarty scored 18 points and senior center Carlie Pogue had 17, including a basket with two seconds to play, to lift the University of New Hampshire women’s basketball team to another dramatic road win on Sunday, 51-50 at Stony Brook.
The Wildcats have won a season-high four straight games and are 14-5 overall (5-1 in America East). They have scored the winning basket in the closing seconds of their last three road games.
Stony Brook dropped to 10-9 (2-4 AE).
Senior forward Olivia Healy had 10 points and led UNH in rebounds with eight, including three key defensive boards in the final two minutes.
The Wildcats return to Lundholm Gymnasium for a two-game homestand. They play Maine on Wednesday (7 p.m.) and face Binghamton on Saturday (1 p.m.).
Todd gets upper hand
BOSTON — Shannon Todd made a halfcourt 3-pointer to close out the second quarter, and her Northeastern team beat William & Mary, 64-46, in a battle between a pair of former Seacoast schoolgirl standouts on Sunday.
Todd scored eight points, and added five rebounds, two assists and two steals as the Huskies (9-9, 4-3 CAA) moved ahead of William & Mary (12-6, 3-4 CAA) in the league standings, thanks in part to her heave at the end of the first half that put her team ahead 33-23.
Freshman Libby Underwood played 10 minutes for William & Mary during a quasi-homecoming at Cabot Center, three above her season average. She took three shots but did not score.
Claudia Ortiz scored a game-high 19 points for Northeastern, adding six rebounds, four assists, and two steals.
Vermont wins 9th straight
WEST HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) — Trae Bell-Haynes scored 17 points to reach a program milestone and Vermont won its ninth straight game with a 76-53 victory over Hartford on Sunday.
First-place Vermont (16-5, 6-0 America East) extended its nation-best, regular-season conference winning streak to 27 games.
Bell-Haynes entered needing 11 points to reach 1,400 points for his UVM career. He scored 13 points in the first half to become the 11th Catamount to surpass the plateau. He also moved to 10th in scoring, far behind leader Eddie Benton (1992-96) at 2,474 points.
Payton Henson added 18 points and Everett Duncan 12 for the Catamounts.
Albany men rip UMBC
ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) — Travis Charles scored 21 points, David Nichols scored 17, Alex Foster grabbed 13 rebounds and Albany dismantled UMBC, 83-39, on Sunday.
Ahmad Clark made two 3-pointers and the Great Danes had a 20-4 lead with just over seven minutes before halftime. Albany (16-6, 4-3 America East) never trailed.
After UMBC's Daniel Akin made a layup to make it 8-4 with 15:24 to go before halftime, the Retrievers didn't score again until the 6:52 mark of the first half, missing nine shots during that stretch.
Albany led 36-12 at the break, and continued the one-sided affair after intermission with a 13-0 run as Nichols made a pair of threes. UMBC (13-8, 4-2) didn't score until 16:37 left with Joe Sherburne's layup to make it 49-14.
