The Adrian College women’s basketball team used a big fourth quarter to earn a 74-65 victory over Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association foe Alma on Saturday.
Adrian (7-10, 4-5 MIAA) scored 22 points on 8-for-11 shooting in the fourth stanza.
Ashley Morris (Madison) led Adrian with 21 points, seven rebounds and five assists. Emily Somerville had 14 points and four assists. Alivia Kondrath scored 13 points, while Sha’Trice Graves had 13 points and seven rebounds.
Siena Heights 56, Michigan-Dearborn 54: At Dearborn, the Saints overcame a slow start and cold shooting to hang on for the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference win.
Siena Heights (12-10, 6-7 WHAC) shot 39 percent from the field in the game. The Saints trailed 14-6 after one quarter, but outscored UM-Dearborn (6-17, 1-13) in the second half, 39-27.
Haley Hoffman led SHU off the bench with 13 points. Taylar McNeal had 11 points and 11 rebounds, while Azalea Miller had 11 points, and eight assists.
WOMEN’S HOCKEY
Adrian 5, Lake Forest 2: At Adrian, the Bulldogs broke a 2-2 tie with three unanswered goals in the Northern Collegiate Hockey Association game at Arrington Ice Arena.
Adrian (11-5-1, 8-1-1 NCHA) swept the two-game series with Lake Forest (9-8, 7-3).
Brianna Buchanan had two goals and two assists for the Bulldogs on Saturday. Brooke Schembri and Olivia Fox each had a goal and an assist. Fox finished with a plus-4 rating.
The Bulldogs outshot Lake Forest 30-18. Adrian goaltender Kate Turner made 16 saves for her 10th win.
MEN’S HOCKEY
Adrian 5, Concordia (Wis.) 2: At Mequon, Wis., the Bulldogs tallied two goals in the first two periods to roll past the Falcons in the NCHA contest.
Adrian (15-4, 11-1 NCHA) had five different players (Nick Erb, Bryan Yim, Ryan Cusin, Brian Bachnak and Dino Balsamo) find the back of the net, while Balsamo and Cusin each added an assist to their goal tallies.
The Bulldogs outshot Concordia (11-6-2, 7-5) in the contest, 43-28. Adrian netminder Kevin Entmaa turned aside 26 of 28 shots from the Falcons to improve to 9-2.
MEN’S BASKETBALL
Michigan-Dearborn 63, Siena Heights 60: At Dearborn, the Saints were not quite able to rally from a first-half deficit in Saturday’s WHAC contest.
Keith Jordan led SHU (8-12, 4-9 WHAC) in scoring with 15 points. Tony Jackson tallied another double-double for the Saints with 14 points and 15 rebounds, while tying Nick Randle and Hadi Akle for the team high in assists (three).
The Saints struggled against the Wolverines (14-10, 9-5) early in the first half, falling behind by as many as 12.
SHU rallied and took the lead with 1:22 to go on a Jackson layup, only for Dearborn to knock down a pair of free throws to retake the lead and hold on.
Alma 73, Adrian 66: At Alma, the Bulldogs could not find their way past the Scots, suffering a second straight defeat after a 10-game win streak.
Adrian (13-4, 4-2 MIAA) never led and trailed by as many as 14 points in the first half. Three different times in the second half they tied the contest, but could not take the lead from Alma (5-11, 2-3).
Jeremy Kalonji scored a game-high 22 points, while Justin Webster (Madison) and Tre’Shon Heard added 15 and 14 points, respectively.
Webster added a team-high nine rebounds, while Heard had a team-high four assists.
TRACK AND FIELD
Adrian at Keith Turner Alumni Invitational: At Angola, Ind., the Adrian men’s and women’s track and field teams placed in the top three of their respective competitions hosted by Trine.
The women’s team finished second with 106 points, only trailing Trine (128).
Britney Carnagie took first place in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 10.23 seconds and finished third in the long jump (4.04 meters).
Dakota Morgan had the other first-place finish for the Adrian women, winning the 60-meter dash in 8.2 seconds.
Rayona Hart-Wilson took second in the long jump (4.94 meters), while Adrian’s 4x400 relay team finished second in 4 minutes, 15.17 seconds, and Violet Smith finished third in the weight throw (13.4 meters).
Clauna Duclos and Arielle Hitch took third-place finishes, with Duclos running the 600 meters in 1:46.18, while Hitch finished third in the 60 hurdles in 10.73 seconds.
The men’s team took third with a total of 74, behind Trine (174) and Manchester (76).
Dazmond Lawrence led a 1-2-3 sweep for Adrian in the high jump, with a jump of 1.95 meters, beating teammate John Hamilton (1.95 meters), while Jordan Davis (1.9 meters) finished third.
Davis also took first in the 60 hurdles (8.49 seconds), while Idris Daranijoh won the long jump (6.51 meters).
Denzel Tinsley took third in the 60 hurdles (8.84 seconds) for the Bulldogs.
