There is little possibility of rain on the Republic Day in the State, though the sky might be overcast in many areas, said the Met department. Light to moderate rain/snow has been forecast at many places in Uttarakhand on Tuesday while light rain/snow might lash isolated places on Wednesday. “Though it might rain and snow on Tuesday and Wednesday across the State there is little possibility of its continuance till Friday on which the Republic Day would be celebrated,” said Meteorological centre director Bikram Singh on Saturday.
Singh said that fog is likely to engulf some places in the plains of the State, especially in Haridwar and Udham Singh Nagar districts, in the morning hours during the next 24 hours.
Dehradun saw a sunny day on Saturday, though it grew cold after the evening descended. The minimum temperature hovered in the neighbourhood of 6 degree Celsius.
The highest maximum temperature of the state 24.4°C was recorded in Dehradun while the lowest minimum -3.4°C was recorded at Matela in Almora district.
Singh said that a fresh western disturbance is likely to affect northwest India from January 22 as an impact of which light to moderate rainfall is likely at various parts of the state from January 23. The climate might be cold on January 24 and 25, he said.
On Saturday, the maximum temperature and minimum temperatures were recorded at 24.4 degree Celsius, five notches above the normal, and 6.2 degree Celsius, normal, respectively in Dehradun. In Pantnagar, the maximum and minimum temperatures were recorded at 21.9 degree Celsius, two notches above the normal, and 3.0 degree Celsius, three notches below the normal, respectively. In Mukteshwar, the maximum and minimum temperatures were recorded at 19.8 degree Celsius, seven notches above normal, and 6.3 degree Celsius, five notches above the normal. In Tehri, the maximum and minimum temperatures recorded were 19.4 degree Celsius and 7.4 degree Celsius respectively.
