Editor, Register-Mail: Hawaii has no intercontinental missile intercept capabilities, according to a very knowledgeable individual. That should be rectified as soon as possible.
The frightening false alarm report on Jan. 13 of an incoming missile toward Hawaii from North Korea should also result in immediate conversations with Kim Jong Un and China's president Xi jinping. China has not been helpful in our dealings with Kim Jong Un and should be included as an information addressee in the threatening message we send to North Korea. This administration should, in no uncertain terms, again warn North Korea that we will unleash hell and fury if attacked.
One ballistic missile capable nuclear submarine armed with nuclear weapons could make short work of Kim Jong-un and his military. A MIRV capable intercontinental missile launched from the United States could destroy several targets at once. MIRV is an abbreviation for Multiple Independent Reentry Vehicle and has several thermonuclear warheads capable of mass destruction over a wide area. Kim Jong Un most likely is not suicidal or stupid, but he may be insanely naive if he thinks America would not retaliate or even pre-emptively attack if he continues to threaten the United States and our allies.
President Trump should rattle our nuclear sabers and let fat little "Rocketman" know he will be the main target. Several decades of talks have not dissuaded North Korea from its nuclear ambitions. If the "let's talk nice" peaceniks on the left don't like the saber rattling, that is tough! Our nuclear capabilities would be a deterrence to any sane opponent, but that may not apply to Kim Jong Un. A preemptive strike may be our only option should North Korea persist with the threats and makes an aggressive move.
President Trump's main goal should be to protect the United States and our allies. China had better wake up to that fact and put pressure on North Korea to cease and desist with the asinine rhetoric. — Thomas E. Mosher, Victoria
