Gazette on revised traffic fines issued
The Gazette relating to the revision of traffic fines has been issued.
However, the Senior DIG Traffic, L. F. Pathinayake said it will take some time to implement the new fines mentioned in the Gazette.
First, the Attorney General's advise will be sought on the implementation mechanism and the relevant forms will be amended with the support of the State Language Department.
Thereafter, those forms will be delivered to police stations island-wide.
According to the revised fines, the fine for high speed has been increased from Rs. 1000 to 3000.
The fine for road rule violation has been upped from Rs. 500 to 1000.
Reversing on the main road will be subjected to a fine of Rs. 1000. The earlier amount was Rs. 20.
The fine for driving without wearing the seat belt has been increased from Rs. 500 to 1000.
Altogether, the spot fines have been revised for 33 traffic violations.
