“I was shocked and frightened. I could not speak and don’t know how I reached the bathroom after seeing the leopard in our house,” said Vanajakshi, who, along with her daughter-in-law Vinutha, sought refuge in the bathroom while the big cat sought refuge in their home. A sound on the iron-gate alerted them.

Vinutha said, “My father-in-law, who was standing behind me, told me to open the door. As soon as I opened it, the leopard ran in. Immediately, my father-in-law told me to go to the bathroom and lock myself in. He got out of the house and locked the main door from outside.”

Through their ordeal, they communicated with police and Forest Department personnel through the bathroom window. Badam milk, water and juice was given to them through the grille. It was only by 3 p.m. that the Fire and Emergency Services personnel were able to break open the windows and help them escape.
