Chelsea and Barcelona in transfer battle to sign Real Madrid sensation

CHELSEA and Barcelona are set to go head-to-head to sign Real Madrid youngster Oscar Rodriguez, according to reports in Spain.

Oscar Rodriguez has not been afforded much game time at Real Madrid and is tipped to leave in the summer when his contract expires.

The 19-year-old attacking-midfielder is not lacking in suitors and is reportedly a target for Chelsea and Barcelona.

Spanish outlet Don Balon claim the Blues are keen to sign the teenager and are considering making a January bid in the region of £7million.

Barca, however, are not willing to offer as much but are prepared to give Rodriguez a place in their first team.

The report says Rodriguez has been dubbed the new Frank Lampard, meaning Barcelona would do well to prise him away from the Blues.

But the promise of first-team football with the Catalan side could prove too good to refuse, especially given Chelsea’s recent track record with youth players.

Rodriguez has made just one senior appearance for Real this season in the 2-2 draw with Fuenlabrada in the Copa del Rey in November.

However, he has been showcasing his talents in Real’s reserves, scoring three goals and providing two assists in four youth matches.

Losing Rodriguez will be a huge blow for Real Madrid boss Zinedine Zidane who is said to be a huge admirer of the Spain U19 international.

Spanish newspaper Marca claimed last year he was the “pearl” of Real’s academy and had a huge future ahead of him at the Bernabeu.

But it was claimed even last summer that Premier League clubs were circling for the teenager.

And with Barca now also linked, they could struggle to keep hold of him, especially with less than five months left on his contract.
