Public lecture on Master of the Roster to be held at Vivekananda Library today

A public lecture on Master of the Roster will be organised at Swami Vivekananda Library on Sunday. This is the 57th lecture in the library's series of monthly lectures.

Former District Judge, OP Sunaraya, is the key speaker of the event while former Ashok Pandey President of Madhya Pradesh Public Service Commission will preside over this programme. Open for all, this programme will start at 4.30 pm on Sunday. Anyone in the city who is willing to participate can become a part of this programme.

General Manager of the library Laxmi Sharan Mishra informed that last week, the Indian Supreme Court had suddenly come to the headlines when four senior judges called for a press conference and questioned the present methodology and told that Indian democracy in danger. The root of this controversy was - Master of the Roster, a system which decides which judge will adjudicate which case.

The Swami Vivekananda Library is organizing a public lecture this Sunday to understand the real implications of this system, Master of the Roster, which recognizes the Chief Justice’s power as master of the roster and to understand the real implications of the recent controversy, he added.

The topics that will be discussed during the popular lecture includes ‘What is the master of the roster system, When has this system started, How has this system made the Chief Justice more powerful, What are the advantages and disadvantages of this system, Why has the recent four senior judges oppose it, Is this system really a big threat to democracy?, What is the direction of judicial reforms in India, What is the significance of this system in terms of judicial reforms, informed Mishra.
