A quarter of tourists run out of money on day three of their break.

They blow their funds on tatty souvenirs and are ripped off in bars where they can be charged up to £20 for a drink.

A survey of 2,000 people for Travel Money Club showed that Britons also spend £200 more than they intended on prezzies.

Three-quarters of Britons abroad get confused by exchange rates. 

Almost half (45%) say they have no idea how to get the best deal or if there were hidden commissions involved.

Nationwide, Londoners spend the most and the Welsh the least.

Don Clark, the founder of Travel Money Club, said: “Foreign currency is a minefield for holidaymakers if they don’t know what to look out for.

“Familiarising yourself with the current conversion rates and reading the small print on charges and commissions will prevent unexpected surprises when buying foreign currency.”

Millenials are by far the worst when it comes to holiday money. A third said that they do not think about how much they spend.
