Earlier this month we revealed the staggering cost of a funeral in Coventry - but worry not, because this is the way that you can do it on the cheap.
Unfortunately, there is a catch.
The average cost of a basic funeral in the West Midlands is £4,133, but you can get the job done for as little as £1,995, if you prefer the idea of a no-frills send off.
The Heart of England Co-operative Society’s funeral division offers a number of funeral packages, including The Simple Funeral, which is described as “a simple, lower-cost funeral option with the comfort of knowing that quality isn’t compromised”.
For that price, the deceased will be transported into their care, dressed appropriately, and placed into a simple coffin.
Arrangements will then be made for a dignified funeral and the deceased will be transported from the funeral home to the crematorium or cemetery in a hearse at the appointed time of the service.
However, the low cost means that a number of typical funeral services are not included.
There is no choice of the time or date of the funeral and an additional mileage charge will be made if the deceased needs to be brought into care beyond a 15 mile radius.
Loved ones will not be able to view the deceased outside of working hours, nor will there be a separate funeral service or celebration taking place before proceeding to the local crematorium or cemetery.
Though this is what you can expect from the basic funeral package, additional extras can also be added (at a cost), which includes:
- The arrangement of a funeral service, celebration or ceremony to take place at a chosen location prior to attending the cemetery or crematorium.
- The organisation of a chauffeur driven limousine to follow the hearse.
- Arranging for the hearse and limousines to attend a chosen location before the funeral, before proceeding to the funeral as a funeral procession.
- Embalming of a loved one.
