NAGPUR: Digital footprints are now replacing CVs and resumes while applying for jobs and the students must be ready for tomorrow's world, said Anand Samuel, vice-chancellor of
Vellore Institute of Technology, on Saturday.
"Around six months ago, during a meet of industry and academia, the representatives told us to ask students to send their digital footprints. They said they were no more interested in those long CVs and resumes. The industry wants to know what digital creation the students are engineering," said the VIT VC during the first graduation ceremony of
Datta Meghe Institute of Management Studies (DMIMS).
Chairman of the college's board of management Datta Meghe, Nagpur University (NU) VC SP Kane, NU dean Vinayak Deshpande, DMIMS director Shiney Chib, YCCE principal UP Waghe, DMIMS CoE S Sheshan, dean of academics
Vaishali Rahate and faculty member
Soma Sharma were present.
The 2015-17 MBA batch became the first to pass out of DMIMS after it was accorded autonomy two years ago.
Samuel told students that they were the torch-bearers of DMIMS because they were part of the first batch after DMIMS got autonomy.
Samuel said, "We are living in a different kind of world. We call it the modern world. It is full of uncertainty. It is becoming a virtual world which is highly competitive. There is no place for the second best. So, prepare yourself for this challenge."
The VIT VC encouraged the students to keep on learning new things and honing skills rather than thinking that the process is over. "So far, you were well-protected. Now, you are on your own. Don't think that the process of learning is over. Today, a new era of learning has started for you," he said.
Samuel told the students that being future managers, they must ensure they are for technological challenges. "Don't feel bad today if you haven't honed technological skills. There is still time as you have to go a long way. But start now. Also, learn to work as a team. In the Indian context, it is difficult to see team work. In the virtual world, only team work will survive," he added.
Kane said, "Make yourself confident. Welcome new and good ideas. Stay away from thoughts which take you away from patriotism. Find opportunities to carve out a successful career. Don't miss any opportunity that comes your way."
Total 75 students were conferred with management degrees during the ceremony.
Rujuta Gunnale bagged the first rank and was awarded gold. Mayuri Bhorkar stood second, followed by Pranav Lakhe at third position. Both were awarded silver and bronze medals.
