Lafourche council may seek more legal opinions

The Lafourche Parish Council is considering asking the District Attorney’s Office for more opinions regarding parish administrative duties.

The council will meet at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Mathews Government Complex, 4876 La., 1, to discuss whether it is legal for the parish administration to access the electronic files or emails of legislative employees via parish employees or outside firms.

The council will also discuss whether it is legal for another parish employee titled risk manager to attend and or conduct the termination of another civil servant employee.

Both matters were presented by Chairwoman Luci Sposito.

During the council meeting held Jan. 9, the council approved a resolution requesting the District Attorney’s Office to provide an opinion on whether a council member can hire a civil service employee and what the violation would be if a council member interfered with an administrative function.

The council will also vote Tuesday on a resolution from Councilman Jerry Jones to removed Carrel Hymel III as director of finance.

The full agenda for Tuesday’s meeting is available online at www.lafourchegov.org.
