The Diversity dancer was a new edition to the ITV ice skating competition for this year’s series, and is normally dressed to the nines in a series of suave outfits. 

Tonight, however, the star had donned a pair of large black sunglasses, apparently in an attempt to join in with the theme of Disco Week.

Following Love Island star Kem Cetinay’s performance alongside his professional skating parter Alex Murphy, Ashley made a bold move by refusing to take off his towering shades while the other judges gave their critiques. 

When his turn rolled around, the 29-year-old star made a point of whipping the accessory off with a precise shake of his head, leaving fans completely confused.

Taking to Twitter, one person wrote: “#DancingOnIce @AshleyBanjo the sunglasses look ridiculous. If you want to appear cool you are not. If you want to engage with the audience you need to see your eyes.”

“Why has Ashley banjo got shades on.... #DancingOnIce,” another person wondered.

A third demanded: “#DancingOnIce what the hell is the Bangor doing wearing shades? He looks like a cheap terminator!”

“Very sad news about Ashley getting blinded this week. That can be the only reason for his appearance this evening #DancingOnIce #DOI,” a fourth decided, followed by: “And Ashley is wearing sunglasses indoors because...?  #DancingOnIce.”

“ASHLEY PLS EXPLAIN THOSE GLASSES #DancingOnIce,” another person demanded.

Meanwhile, presenter Holly Willoughby revealed to viewers that her co-host Phillip Schofield had been “up all night” before this week’s show.

“The glitter’s been shipped in, Phillip’s been up all night polishing his disco ball,” the 36-year-old star declared.

“You can see your face in it,” Phillip chimed in suddenly.

Agreeing with her This Morning partner, Holly added: Yes, I can confirm.”

Also in tonight's episode, Phillip resorted to snapping at Antony Cotton after the Coronation Street star appeared to take his comments from the judges to heart.
