The Delhi Government is slated to take strict action against those liquor shops who will sell alcohol without scanning the bar codes. As per the directive issued by the Excise Department liquor vends in the city will face strict action if alcohol is sold by them without scanning bar codes after February15. This has been done in order to plug tax loopholes in the sale of alcohol, informed an official.
Some of the liquor shops in national Capital, allegedly, in order to make extra bugs sell illegally imported liquor from adjoining Haryana without scanning the bar code. They allegedly evade the tax as there is no record of such illicitly sold liquor. Also on few occasions rules are flouted on the pretext of poor internet connectivity.
“All those who are incharge of liquor vends have been directed to put their system in place to ensure that cent per cent sale happens through scanning after February 15,” said a Government official. Adding that, the sale of liquor without scanning would attract penal action as per terms and conditions of the licence.
In April last year, the excise department directed all distributors to maintain one week’s stock of all approved brands for sale in order to ensure “uninterrupted” supply to the liquor outlets across the city.
“After February 15, Excise Department’s teams will visit liquor vends to check whether the order is being followed. If they fail to comply, strict action, including cancellation of licence, can be taken against them,” the official said.
