Canton residents displaced after kitchen fire

Firefighters were called Saturday afternoon to the 1600 block of 30th Street NW

CANTON  Two residents were displaced by a kitchen fire Saturday afternoon.

Firefighters were called about 2:35 p.m. to 1617 30th St. NW, said Battalion Chief Dan Reed. The fire, which started when a resident was cooking, was determined to be accidental.

The American Red Cross was called to assist with housing, he said.

There were no injuries. The fire caused an estimated $5,000 damage to the house and $1,000 damage to its contents, Reed said.
