In Battle Against BJP, CPM Won't Work With Congress, For Now
Kolkata:  A key vote in the CPM's powerful Central Committee to decide whether or not to work with Congress to defeat the BJP in the 2019 general elections, went in favour of maintaining distance with India's oldest party.

The voting was won by the supporters of former party general secretary Prakash Karat by just one vote.

Those supporting the current party general secretary, Sitaram Yechury, wanted an electoral deal with what they called "all secular Left and democratic forces against the fascist rule of the BJP," including the Congress.

The voting took place at the Central Committee or CC meet in Kolkata today, where the party discussed it's most crucial document that's prepared every three years -- the draft political resolution. But today, the panel had two rival drafts to discuss -- something that has not happened since 1968.
