Reunion of Pabna Zila School

It was a nostalgic occasion for the former students of Pabna Zila School, many of them now holding important positions in the society, as they joined a reunion on the school premises on Friday.

Around 11:00am, hundreds of former students belonging to different batches of the renowned school joined a colourful procession that paraded the main streets of the district town.

Convenor of the reunion committee Abu Bakar Siddique, registrar of Jahangirnagar University, chaired the reunion discussion while former students Land Minister Shamsur Rahman Sherif Dilu and businessman Masudur Rahman, among many others, reminisced their school days on the occasion.

Seven former students of the school -- Prof Abdullah Abu Sayeed, Mirza Fazlul Karim Beg, Md Anwarul Islam, Md Ashraful Islam, Md Mamun, Anjan Chowdhury Pintu (director of Square Group), were awarded for their contribution to the country.

Late litterateur Abu Hena Mostafa Kamal, a former student of the school, got a posthumous reception on the occasion.

Former teacher of the school, Liberation War martyr Moulana Kasim Uddin Ahmed was also given posthumous award.

“This is a wonderful occasion in my life. I feel nostalgic as I have come along with my two sons who are also former students of the school,” said freedom fighter Rabiul Islam Rabi, a former student of 1965 batch.

Abu Bakar Siddique, president of Pabna Zila School Former Students' Association, said, “A large number of students of the school are now spread around the world, performing well with their brilliant contribution.”

“We are trying to organise all the students of Pabna Zila School from across the world as we have a plan to organise an international conference of the former students,” he added.
