Woman killed, male injured in light plane crash in north-east Tasmania

A woman has died and a male passenger is in hospital after a light plane crash on private property in Tasmania's north-east.

The aircraft overshot the runway on a private property at Tomahawk about 4:30pm on Saturday, police said.

The woman died en route to the hospital while the male was taken to Launceston General Hospital with minor injuries.

Australian Transport Safety Bureau staff will be at the crash site today.
