RIMS Director: SACH event opportunity to introspect

As Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) doctors Abhishek Verma and Harindra Himanshu presented their papers on second day of South Asian Academy of Cytopathology and Histopathology (SACH) Seminar being organised in RIMS, Institute Acting Director RK Srivastava said on Saturday that the event was yet another opportunity to introspect as far as work culture was concerned.

Pathologists from South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) countries have gathered in three-day SACH International Seminar-2018 which is taking place for the first time in India, that also in Ranchi, to discuss developments in pathology in the region, challenges and roads ahead. Around four dozen pathologists from Nepal, Bangladesh, Malaysia, Bhutan, Afghanistan and neighbouring countries other than over 200 doctors from across the country have gathered in the seminar for the year.

“After seeing the quality of works presented as papers by our pathologists and students in the seminar, I can only reinstate that this is high time for our doctors and all others working in RIMS to introspect about work culture and improve it as soon as possible. Our pathologists are not behind on any parameter from their counterparts coming from across South Asian countries as far as their knowledge is concerned and little improvement in attitude towards their jobs could work wonders,” said Srivastava on the sidelines of event.

He added that many of the papers presented so far in the seminar opened gateway of cost effective pathological tests in the region which could be of great use to poor countries.

“Despite Bangladesh being a poor country in comparison to many of its neighbours, its Chittagong Hospital takes care of 6,000 OPD patients everyday against capacity of 2,000. But we give up with just over a thousand patients. And there are so many such instances which force us to rethink about our work culture,” said Srivastava.
