WOOSTER — Jane G. Worcester, 93, passed peacefully on Jan. 17, 2018.
She was born Sept. 16, 1924, in Lock Haven, Pennsylvania. After high school, Jane worked at Piper Aircraft in Lock Haven, where she met Winthrop Sargent Worcester. Her explanation of their courtship: "I chased him till he caught me!" They were married June 27, 1946, and shared 68 exciting years, involved in church, community activities and neighborhood projects including band parents, Meals on Wheels and AARP. They also hiked the Metroparks and traveled around the country.
Together they raised daughters, Mary Worcester (Denny) Newell, Sue Worcester (Ron) Staul and Gail Worcester (Don) Klise; and son, Winthrop Gibb (Rhonda Delaney) Worcester. They were thrilled with the births of each of their grandchildren: Jeff Jones, Debbie Zeela, Lara Kurth (Geoff Butler), Julia (Nick) Fossati, Andy Klise, Steve Klise (Amelia Hancock), Heidi Klise, Skye Worcester, Kian Worcester and Kenna Worcester, as well as great-grandchildren Austin Jones, Bryan Jones, Keeley Zirkler, Kayla Zirkler, Cora Fossati and Brennan Fossati.
In addition, Jane leaves behind sister-in-law, Nita (Gibb) Adams; six nieces and nephews and their growing families; longtime caregiver and friend; Cookie Polaski, and many more friends.
Her positive perspective and enthusiasm for life led to her involvement in many activities. Among them are Bible school craft director, first aid teacher, Girl Scout leader, Girl Scout Day Camp activities director and founding member of Girl Scout Z-Troop. Jane was awarded by the Girl Scouts the prestigious Juliette Low World Friendship Medal.
She was also the quality control supervisor for her husband’s many woodworking projects. Jane eagerly produced, shared and taught origami, cross-stitch and other fine handcrafted keepsakes for appreciative family and friends.
We will miss her wit, charm and quick infectious smile. With a twinkle in her eye, Jane always said, "Life is short. Eat dessert first."
Jane was preceded in death by her parents, Lewis W. Gibb Sr. and Mabel Coulter Gibb, and her only brother, Lewis W. Gibb Jr.
A memorial service will be held at a later date. McIntire, Bradham & Sleek Funeral Home, 216 E. Larwill St., Wooster, is assisting the family. Contributions may be made to a charity of your choice.
