AL AIN: Qasr Al Muwaiji, the birthplace of His Highness Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, played host to a series of cultural experiences last week in celebration of Emirati heritage and the contemporary landscape of Al Ain. The monthly Royal Bisht workshops and renowned Poetry Evenings returned on Jan.18, as part of the Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi’s annual Al Ain Cultural Programme 2017/18.
Providing fascinating insight into the bisht, the traditional Arabian long cloak worn by men as formal wear over their thobe, the Royal Bisht workshop explored the exquisite bishts specially hand-tailored for Emirati Rulers and adorned with various patterns of gold or silver thread. Participants also had the opportunity to try their hand at sewing while taking in the beauty of some of the royal family’s stunning bishts currently on display at Qasr Al Muwaiji.
