PROVIDENCE — Johnny Austin and Joseph Masonius scored power-play goals and Tanner Creel made 26 saves as the University of Connecticut defeated Providence College, 3-1, on Saturday night at Schneider Arena.
Austin scored at 10:44 of the first period and Masonius at 8:05 of the second to give UConn (9-16-2, 6-11-1 Hockey East) a 2-0 lead.
PC (16-8-2, 9-5-2) cut the lead to 2-1 on Brian Pinho's 11th goal of the season at 14:19 of the second period.
Maxim Letunov scored an empty-net goal for UConn with 53 seconds left in the third period.
Hayden Hawkey made 19 saves for the Friars, who were 0-for-7 on the power play.
