The Citizens’ Climate Lobby will hold a regional conference at St. Scholastica Conference Center in Fort Smith from Feb. 16-18.
The deadline for registration is Feb. 2. For information, search online for “Citizens’ Climate Lobby 2018 Tornadoes Regional Conference.”
The lobby’s goal is to initiate a carbon fee and dividend bill in Congress. There are now 66 members of Congress equally representing both Republican and Democratic parties in the House Climate Solutions Caucus.
The first day of the conference will focus on discussions of how global climate change is affecting both the agriculture and oil and gas industries. Panels of farmers and representatives of the oil and gas industry will speak as part of two conference sessions.
“We want to stress the nonpartisan nature of our work we do,” Arkansas Citizens’ Climate Lobby member Robert McAffee wrote. “The conference also offers excellent training opportunities, and it is suited for anyone interested in knowing more about advocacy and building community.”
A reception at 7 p.m. Feb. 16 will be free and open to the public. Costs for the conference vary depending on how many days are attended and lodging options. Scholarships are available for those with problems paying to attend, according to a conference flyer. Contact Carol Braford at braford@citizensclimate.org to request a scholarship application or to make a donation for others to attend.
Full conference costs, with on-site lodging for three days and six meals, is $160. Full conference costs, with no lodging and six meals is $100. Saturday and Sunday conference costs with one-night’s lodging and four meals is $110. Saturday conference cost with only two meals is $60. Accessibility requirements may also be arranged with Braford.
