R.I. lieutenant governor promises 'legal action' against opiates

PROVIDENCE, R.I. — On Monday, Lt. Gov. Daniel McKee and a group of municipal leaders will announce plans to take legal action against "companies responsible for dumping millions of dollars' worth of prescription opiates into Rhode Island communities."

According to an announcement Saturday morning from McKee, municipal leaders will join him Monday at 1 p.m. at North Providence Town Hall, 2000 Smith St.

Municipal leaders expected at Monday's announcement include Warwick Mayor Scott Avedisian, East Providence City Manager Timothy Chapman, Central Falls Mayor James Diossa, Pawtucket Mayor Donald Grebien, North Providence Mayor Charles Lombardi, Cumberland Mayor William Murray, Johnston Mayor Joseph Polisena and Richmond Town Administrator Karen Pinch.

Additional municipal leaders may also attend, according to McKee.
