GREELEY, Colo.—UND's three-game win streak ended Saturday night in heartbreaking fashion.
Northern Colorado's Andre Spight hit a half-court shot at the buzzer, giving the Bears a 94-91 overtime win over UND in a Big Sky Conference game.
The loss dropped UND to 2-5 in the conference and 7-12 overall while UNC improved to 4-3 and 13-7.
Spight finished with 34 points, connecting on 10 of 21 from the field and 7 of 14 from beyond the arc. His seventh 3-pointer came just after Cortez Seales had a 10-foot jumper fall off the rim.
Northern Colorado led by as many as 11 points in the second half before the Hawks rallied.
"I thought we got better, UND head coach Brian Jones said. "I thought our team showed a lot of grit, probably a couple of weeks ago that 11-point lead (for them) grows to 20. Our guys found a way to grind through the toughness of the game and that was a good step."
UND was led by Geno Crandall's 30 points. Conner Avants finished with 20 while Seales and Marlon Stewart finished with 19 and 15 points, respectively.
Close games between UND and the Bears have been common.
This marked the fourth time in the past seven meetings between the teams that the game has gone to overtime. It was third straight overtime game as UND won both OT games last season.
Avants forced overtime when his putback of a missed Crandall free throw with five seconds to play tied the game at 83-83.
UND shot 54 percent from the field to UNC's 46 percent. UNC held a 40-39 rebounding advantage.
