A roundup of Saturday's wrestling action across the Monroe County Region
LINCOLN PARK — Three Trojans finished first Saturday as Monroe won Lincoln Park’s 31st Annual Orange and Blue Tournament with 207 points.
Garrett Doederlein (285), Julien Somers (125) and Logan Gonzales (145) took home individual victories. Nathan Puccetti (112) took second place, Cal Head (119), Justin Haynes (152) and Dom Cusumano (160) each finished in third and Jayston Dye (119), Luke McCollum (130) and Wyatt Head (140) finished in fifth.
Cusumano picked up his 100th career win on the way to finishing third.
Whitman recognized
HUDSON — Brandon Whitman was voted the Outstanding Wrestler of the Tournament as Dundee took first with 275.5 points at the Hudson Super 16 Tournament Saturday.
Whitman (285), along with Stoney Buell (135), McCallister McAvoy (145), Zac Bellaire (152), Tylor Orrison (160), Jaxon Guinn (171) and Kyle Motylinski (189) finished first. Orrison picked up his 150th career victory Saturday.
Tyler Swiderski (112) and Jonny White (119) took third, Kyle Rinehart (214) finished in fourth and Austin Fietz (103), Christian Killion (130) and Grant Ott (140) placed fifth.
Ida tied for eighth at Hudson with 65 points. Hunter Assenmacher was the Blue Streaks’ lone winner, reaching 32-0 with a victory at 103.
Seth Barnier finished third at 171, Brandon Wireman placed fourth at 119 and Hunter Schafer sixth at 125.
Dundee’s B Team competed Friday at Hudson. Nick Bellair (125) and Ethan Abbott (152) won, Caleb Fairchild (135) placed second, Dennis Root (171) finished in third and Gabe Massingil (103) took fifth.
Jets finish undefeated
WAYNE — Airport finished 5-0 Saturday at the Wayne Memorial Tournament.
The Jets defeated Plymouth 40-37, South Lyon East 49-30, Wayne Memorial 57-13, Brooklyn Columbia Central 58-18, and Summit Academy 72-12.
Going 5-0 on the day for Airport (15-5) were Trent Brooks (125), Jon Fritz (135), Justin Chambless (145), Kyle Bergmooser (171), and Sam Johnson (285).
Finished 4-1 on the day were Spencer Fritz (112), Blake Piette (119), Seth Drummond (160), and Mike Foor (189).
Emerson leads Mules
HARTLAND — Austin Emerson was named Outstanding Wrestler of the tournament as Bedford finished second place out of 17 teams at the Hartland Invitational Saturday.
Emerson placed first at heavyweight. Cade Sutterfield (119), Neil Antrassian (152), and Blake Wingate (215) also finished first.
Also placing for the Mules were Chase Grzegorczyk at 112 (fifth), Mason Rimmer at 125 (seventh), Jeff Johnson at 145 (sixth), Vito Lucarelli at 160 (third), Collin Jagielski at 171 (fifth), Andrew Baker at 171 (sixth), and Hunter Gandee at 189 (third).
Grant Burton took first place at 112-pounds for Bedford’s B team in a tournament at Lincoln Park.
Huron takes third
WILLIAMSTON — Drake Pauwels reached 30-0 on the season Saturday as New Boston Huron finished third with 170 points in the Williamston Classic.
Owen Zablocki (125) joined Pauwels as the Chiefs’ only winners. Adam Brenner (152) took second, Delmar Carr III (140), Alex Stoboda (145), Dave Jividen (112) and Trevor Mason (171) finished in third and Cody Brenner (160) placed fourth.
Gibraltar Carlson also competed in Williamston Saturday. Branson Proudlock took first at 130, taking the finals with a major decision over Eaton Rapids’ Hayden Campbell.
Jacob Brown and Josh Brott took third at 215 and 119, respectively, and Tarrin Fountain placed sixth at 103.
