Man held on charge of stealing vehicles dies in police custody

A 40-year-old man who had been arrested for allegedly stealing a two-wheeler died in the custody of Tilaknagar police on Saturday. The police claim Sadiq Pasha died of a cardiac arrest while in custody. Pasha, a lorry driver, was living with his family at Anjanapura, J.P. Nagar 8 Phase. According to the police, there were four cases against him pertaining to two-wheeler lifting and drug peddling.

“He was picked up along with his relative Amin Pasha on Friday night. When the police were taking them to the station in a four-wheeler, he vomited and fell ill. He was shifted to Sai Ambika Hospital, where he was treated and later shifted to Jayadeva hospital, on the doctor’s advice. Doctors said he had suffered a cardiac arrest and was being treated in the ICU at Jayadeva hospital, where he died on Saturday at around 4.30 p.m.,” said Boralingaiah, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Southeast).

Seemant Kumar Singh, Additional Commissioner of Police (East), ordered a departmental inquiry. “The doctors have given a report that Pasha died because of cardiac arrest, but as he was in police custody, I have ordered a departmental inquiry. We will take action if anything untoward is found during the probe,” said Mr. Singh.
