He says he can feel the musicians “souls" within them.

Noel, 50, said: “I think musical instruments, particularly guitars, might have souls.

“Because if they are used and secondhand and from the ’50s or something, clearly they’ve got somebody else’s soul in it.”

Noel also said he refuses to return two guitars lent to him by The Smiths axeman Johnny Marr because he reckons they carry the luck he needs to make more smash hits.

He said: “I’ve got two guitars that were given to me by Johnny Marr. He says borrowed, I say given.

“On one of them he wrote Panic, and I wrote Slide Away on it – and for that reason alone he’s never getting it back.

“And I’ve got his black Gibson Les Paul that he wrote The Queen Is Dead on and I wrote Little By Little or something on it.”

In his Oasis heyday, Noel used to torment his brother Liam over his fear of evil spirits.

He would play practical jokes including telling Liam recording studios and hotels were haunted.

Noel would move objects around Liam’s hotel rooms and tell him it was the work of poltergeists.

He said in a previous interview about his ghost gags: “It’s highly amusing and if we were ever anywhere remotely spooky, we’d tell Liam the house was haunted.

“We convinced him his bedroom was haunted, so when he’d get up in the morning and go and have his breakfast, someone would go in and turn the pictures back to front, or f**king move a lamp beside his bed across the other side of the room.

“He’d arrive pale, ‘Have you been in my f**king room?’

“‘No, why?’ ‘You’ve been in my room, because now the f**king lamp is in the toilet’. ‘No way, f**king hell. Wow’.”

But Noel has also said he believes in the after-life.

He said he has faith he will end up in heaven because he believes God loves Oasis.

Noel says he has written his Pearly Gates speech to persuade St Peter to overlook the catalogue of sex, drugs and rock ’n roll sins he has racked up.
