Stoke 2 - Huddersfield 0: Paul Lambert jumps for joy after first win in charge

PAUL LAMBERT exploded with joy as Joe Allen and Mame Diouf ensured a winning debut for the new Stoke supremo.

Paul Lambert won his first game in charge of Stoke

Safe to say the Scot – who claimed he had not slept since his surprise appointment on Monday – would have had no such problems dropping off last night.

For starters Lambert must have been absolutely knackered, having kicked every ball and made every tackle from his worn-out technical area.

But if that was not enough to ensure a decent kip then three vital three points, secured courtesy of Allen and Diouf’s second half strikes, provided the perfect knockout remedy.

In keeping with their hyperactive leader, struggling Stoke were pumped up from the outset and thoroughly deserved their first win in six games.

Not only did the triumph lift the Potters out of the drop zone, it was also achieved with a rare clean sheet – only their third this season.

And Lambert said: “I was enjoying my life last weekend and then you come back into this – but I wouldn’t change it for the world.”

If you wanted a team to face on your fi rst day in the hotseat then home to Huddersfield would probably be top pick.
