Police: Arrangement to sell phone ends in robbery at gunpoint

ROCKFORD — An 18-year-old trying to sell his cellphone was robbed of the phone at gunpoint Friday evening, according to police.

Rockford officers were sent after 5 p.m. to the 1900 block of North Rockton Avenue after the teen reported the armed robbery, according to police. The teen told police he used Facebook to arrange the sale of his phone and went to the location on North Rockton Avenue to meet with prospective buyers.

During the meeting with three males, one of them pulled out a handgun and ordered the teen to leave. The victim complied, and the trio made off with his phone, police said. No one was injured, and no shots were fired, according to police.

A 17-year-old Rockford boy was arrested Friday night and charged with armed robbery, police stated Saturday afternoon. The suspects were described as males in their late teens to early 20s, all wearing dark clothing.
