NETRAKONA, Jan 20: Wangala, the annual cultural festival of the Garo ethnic community of Durgapur and Kalmakanda upazilas of the district was held on Nalchapa High School ground in Kalmakanda Upazila here on Friday.
President of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Ministry of Foreign Affairs Dr Dipu Moni inaugurated the festival.
She said, "The traditional cultural heritage of the small ethnic group people is part of our national culture. So, we should highlight those to our new generations and preserve those to enrich our national culture."
Chaired by Deputy Commissioner and also President of Birishiri Cultural Academy Dr Musfiqur Rahman, the inaugural function was addressed, among others, by Chhobi Biswas, MP, Jewel Areng, MP, Awami League central committee Member Raymond Areng, and Director of the Brishiri Cultural Academy Subro Chirang.
The inaugural function was followed by a traditional tribal cultural show. Many children, young girls and boys of the Garo ethnic community and artistes of Brishiri Cultural Academy danced and presented ethnic cultural songs.
